LIVE FUNERAL:Tori Bowie Public Viewing Memorial Service๐ญ
On Saturday morning, the parking lot at True Vine Missionary Baptist Church was completely full, and people were still arriving a few minutes before the service began. Everyone at the memorial service for Sandhill's three-time Olympic medalist Tori Bowie had some connection to her. Members of the congregation began filing out of the church and into their waiting vehicles. The staff at Dean Memorial Funeral Home started bringing Bowie portraits to their white Cadillac SUVs. Pictures of Bowie racing, where she was best known, were framed and displayed. However, there were also intimate portraits of Bowie that were only viewed by her loved ones. Bowie's radiant warmth and charming grin shone through in the photographs. On May 3, Bowie's death was confirmed by her management and the United States Olympic Committee. Her age was given as 32. The reason of death is unknown. She won three state titles in the 4x100 metre relay for the Pisgah High School Dragons and set a new MHSAA record in the long jump in 2008, when her jump of 19 foot, 912 inches made national news. Her burial was conducted less than 12 miles from the high school. At Southern Miss, she continued her track and field career under Kevin Stephen, who had been an assistant and head coach at Hattiesburg's programme for 15 years before he resigned in 2014.In 2011, Bowie was a contributing factor in the success of an NCAA indoor and outdoor team. Earlier this year, she received a Hall of Fame induction from the Southern Miss M-Club. At the ceremony, both Stephen and Bowie's representative, Kimberly Holland, gave reflective tributes. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Bowie made a name for herself by winning silver in the 100 and bronze in the 200. In addition, she helped her 4x100 team win gold by running the anchor leg alongside Tianna Bartoletta, Allyson Felix, and English Gardner. She won the 100-meter event in the London World Championships a year later. A member of the gold-winning 4x100 metre relay team, she also contributed to their victory. The funeral was attended by four-time Olympian Brittney Reese. The former Gulfport and Ole Miss star appreciated how Bowie spoke highly of Mississippi. "I'm so heartbroken over this," Reese tweeted. You have a lot of people cheering for you. The people of Mississippi appreciate how well you spoke for us. RIP!"
